Ferralium 255 and 2507 are both types of high-performance stainless steels that have a high strength to weight ratio in addition to their exceptional resistance to corrosion. However, there are a few distinctions between the two.

A super duplex stainless steel, Ferralium 255 is composed of chromium, molybdenum, copper, and nitrogen. Its nitrogen content is higher than that of other duplex steels, which helps in its resistance to corrosion, especially in acidic conditions. Stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion are no match for ferralium 255. Common uses include chemical manufacturing, desalinizing saltwater, and extracting oil and gas.

Super duplex stainless steel 2507, on the other hand, is a combination of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen. In comparison to Ferralium 255, it has a greater chromium and molybdenum content, giving it superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in addition to its already impressive strength. The material 2507 is frequently used in offshore oil and gas production, chemical processing, and marine environments.

While both Ferralium 255 and 2507 are high-performance stainless steels with excellent corrosion resistance and strength, Ferralium 255 is ideally suited for acidic environments, whereas 2507 is ideally suited for applications where resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is crucial. Which one is selected depends on the needs of the application.
